The Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT) measures student academic abilities and is useful for educators to make course and academic program placements for students.

Anne Arundel County, Baltimore County, Howard County assesses all the 3rd graders and 5th graders during November - December time frame. It is a mandatory assessment to be placed in appropriate grade levels.

CogAT offers insight into cognitive domains not fully measured by other tests.

Testing Pattern

CogAT®, the most widely used and trusted abilities test, makes it all happen. With its measurement of Verbal, Quantitative, and Nonverbal reasoning—cognitive domains that are highly correlated with school success—this singular test provides a continuous view of student ability across Grades K–12.

CogAT testing is based on three Batteries - Verbal, Nonverbal, and Quantitative reasoning - to identify strengths and weaknesses missed by other testing methods.

Each of these batteries is further broken into 3 subtests

CogAT Form 7 Level 9 is administered to the students in Grade 3, and

CogAT Form 7 Level 11/12 is administered to the students in Grade 5
