When tutoring students to enhance reading literacy across multiple disciplines, including writing evidence-based material, it's essential to adopt a comprehensive approach that integrates reading comprehension, critical thinking, and effective writing skills. Some of the specific items within which we focus on would include, but are not limited to: 

Understanding of Disciplinary Literacy which provides concept introduction and explains that disciplinary literacy involves specific ways of reading, understanding and communicating within different academic fields.  Each discipline such as science, history or literature has unique features in its texts and ways of constructing knowledge;

Skill Development Teach students how to identify and understand the structure, language, and conventions unique to texts in different disciplines. For example, scientific texts often include data and require interpretation of experimental results, whereas historical texts may focus more on narrative and argumentation based on evidence.

Enhancing Reading Comprehension

Active reading strategies equip students with active reading strategies such as annotating texts, summarizing paragraphs, and asking questions while reading. This helps deepen their understanding and engagement with complex texts.
